The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has advanced a proposal to cut at least $50 billion from the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) over the next decade. These cuts are intended to help finance a $4.5 trillion package of tax cuts and increased spending on border security and immigration enforcement.

In April 2025, Congress approved a budget resolution that sets the stage for significant reductions in federal employee retirement and health benefits. This resolution directs the House Oversight and Government Reform.
